If you aren't > using LVM, you are likely doing something wrong. Haven't had to do any recovery yet but have been using it for about the same timeframe myself on several computers. But I guess it depends a bit on how one updates, i.e. when on a distribution with rolling updates one has to be careful to update user space and kernel space components in a compatible way.
