There are exceptions, but most things you will need are in the repositories. Second, I would recommend that you install Synaptic Package Handler. It works much better than Kpackagekit [ sorry guys for bashing a KDE app but truth is truth ]. kdesudo apt-get install synaptic in a terminal window [ big blue "K" button > System > Konsole ] will usually do the trick. Third, if you want to use Kpackagekit go to the fourth step. Fourth, Whichever package handler you decide to use it is found in "System". Open and at the top there is a search box. Type in "Google" [ no quotes of course ] and scroll down to find what you need. In Synaptic you right click on the little box to the left of the program name and select "Install" from the drop box. it will tell you what is needed other than just Google Earth, if any. Click OK. At the top click "Apply", click OK in the resulting box and sit back and relax till it's finished. For Kpackagekit specifics it should be something similar, I don't use it. While you've got the package handler open you might as well have a good look around at all the goodies available. Soon you will need to add some new repositories to the list but that's best left for when you need it. -- "A good moral character is the first essential in a man."
