Is it acceptable to create an ssh_config pseudo wildcard rule
to allow this?

in ~/.ssh/config add a stanza like:

# leverage wildcards and proxycommand via netcat to port 22
Host    *_tmp
    UserKnownHostsFile      /dev/null
    StrictHostKeyChecking  no
    ProxyCommand nc $(basename %h _tmp) 22


Then, instead of connecting to 'ssh://user@twinky', use
'ssh://user@twinky_tmp'
