I am guessing you don't use Kate. This is not a short cut, but a
button/tool/option that can be used during search and replace. There
is a regex selection as well and I use that all the time.

There is nothing in the general documentation other than to tell you
it is there. Hence the reason that I was looking on the 3 URL above in
my original message. I know the app well but still need to learn parts
of it.

I do use the cli but sometimes I find it faster and easier with Kate.
The Kate devs have improved it and it can do some of the same things
as the cli tools. You can even tell it to behave like Vim.

Yes, already using regex to clean up white spaces. It gets pretty ugly
at times doing this to create URLs in HTML documents. That is why I
was trying to figure out if escape sequences could be of any use.

One thing I noticed, some of the regex switches don't work in Kate.
Like change case, \l does not work but \L with \E does work. So I can
still get it done.

It sure would be nice if devs would give a description of the things
they put in apps. Like the escape sequences in Kate. There is nothing
that I could fine about that any where.

Now when I do a search about "escape sequences in Kate" this post that
I started shows up at the top of the list.
