How to permanently set column layout in Kmail

How does one set the column size and postion in the Inbox ...  or any 
other of the inbox/folders?  I would like to have sender first, subject 
next, then date, with subject being the widest.

I can move them around and adjust their sizes, but if I close kmail and 
reopen, or even download more mail, column position and size go 
back to their default values.
