I don't use an automounter, so I don't claim expertise.  However, it is 
also possible that if you are using PAM that you need to configure it. 
Also your system may have groups for disk access and you need to make 
the user a member of the appropriate group.  There is also the question 
of the mount point for the disk which must have the correct owner and 
permission.
