Why only 4 virtual desktops in pager

I have just installed 4.2.2 on suse 11.1 and find that the pager settings do 
not allow me to alter the number of virtual desktops.

I appear to be stuck with 4 virtual desktops.

Is there any way to get 6 virtual desktops please?
