Have you tried 
 ps -elf 
as user, to see is there any stray process like kio_fish that can slow down 
Dolphin? 

I would take snapshots after logging, before and after using fish protocol:
 ps -elf > before-fish
 ps -elf > after-fish
then open both files and compare lines.
