Yap, portage is portage.
It just has the entropy binary package manager and it comes by default 
with a really nice system IMHO.
It's possible to install the live dvd and get a system with 
kde3.5+compiz+ lots of apps, working in less than 1 hour.
Plus your get both the binary and portage worlds.
Actually I hardly use the binary anyway... The base system is good 
enough, usually I just install very few extra packages not availabe in 
binary format.

but in essence all GNU/Linux distros are "the same." (code)
