The packagers will probably do an update earlier than that, one of the advantages of having access to the code :) One of the evil things about regressions is that they can remain unnoticed for some time, e.g. if it needs a specific setup to trigger them, certain configuration combinations, a specific data set, etc. Another consequence of this is that bugs can be hard to reproduce on a second system even if they can be easily triggered on the system they originally happened. Creating a good bug report or improving already existing ones is quite challenging, but unfortunately one of the lesser known ways of being a contributor.
