I tried it with koffice-spreadsheet-1.6.3-211.11 (openSUSE 11.1), and I 
*couldn't* add newlines with Shift+Enter.  I *could* simply paste in text 
with newlines by focusing the edit bar and middle-clicking.  However, text 
with newlines did not render properly.  When not editing the text, the 
newline would show up as a "missing glyph" box.  When editing the text, the 
newline would show up correctly in the spreadsheet, but show up as a single 
space in the edit bar.

That's quite broken.
