Downloading too much stuff? :-)
I've filled up my /home several times, and I've experienced crashes, but luckily, not any data loss (to my knowledge).
One of the things that KDE 3 always lacked, and that (I hope) KDE 4 will address with its new frameworks, are notifications like this (almost full disk, or other critical problems).
