Once I was using K3B to backup a bunch of files.

K3b just stopped

I looked at the bunch of files and some had bad permissions and bad ownership(root).

K3B would report nothing!

K3B will not save a file you don't own! (obviously) or with bad permissions

I cleared all the problems and it worked
