Nepomuk is basically the service which does the search and Strigi is the
indexer which feeds data about files into the Nepomuk database.

There is currently a packaging/policy issue wit Nepomuk since the preferred
database engine is Java based and distributors do not want to add
dependencies on Java.

Since Mandriva is a major sponsor of Nepomuk (they are one of the companies in
the respective EU research program and their employee Sebastian Trüg is the
main Nepomuk-KDE developer) they probably jsut decided to accept the
additional dependency or ship the low-performane Redland backend.

Cheers,
Kevin
