That reminds me... While i do not have that problem that you earlier mentioned 
for most of the time, weird things happen when i have one of either firefox or 
openoffice opened and i do not use any other non kde/qt GUI app. I wonder what 
the relation is in there.

Sorry, i don't know much on this topic. I think that phonon is now the KDE 
sound gateway which in turn uses xine/gstreamer etc. which in turn uses 
alsa/pulseaudio etc. which in turn... :-)
