I didn't have the answer so I started a discussion on the development list.

I have a question for you:

What hinting setting are you using?  This is in System Settings:

	Appearance -> Fonts

	Use anti-aliasing :: Configure ... Hinting style:

Try setting it to: "Full" and see if that helps.
