Suspend without asking for password

My KDE 3.5.6 installation on Ubuntu has problems suspending. After I
click Suspend from KLaptop (or from closing the lid), the kde lock
screen comes up. The laptop then suspends. When I open the lid, the
screen remains blank, but the machine powers on. How can I disable
this lock screen, as I suspect that it is the source of my problem?
Thanks.
