A lot of people including me had a problems with ipv6 some time ago. Many
pages displayed very very slowly. Ebay for instance was unusable for many - I
had to wait up to 1min plus for a page to come up. Oddly things had been
working fine for many months before this happened.
Looking in to it a bit further it seems that ipv6 is handled on ipv4 servers
by a process called tunnelling. The ipv4 server has to pass the request on to
an ipv6 server. That suggests that it may be a slower process as there is
more overhead. In my case I can only assume that this was fine for a while
and my isp or others decided to do it another way for some reason or the
other. Suse did however state that many servers were not implementing ipv6
correctly. Pass on that as the company that gives ebay a fast world wide
presence is huge and handles many global organisations - one would hope they
got it correct. I finished up disabling ipv6 everywhere not just in
konqueror. I've left it like that for well over 20 months.
Many might be interested to know how you get on if you enable it.
