Try /dev/cdrom or /dev/hdx or /dev/sdx instead.

For ripping audio cd's have you tried the audiocd:/ kio?

On other note, are you able to see the disc as being detected elsewhere on 
the system? like say in konq? Some audio cd's are protected and are not 
detected on computer drives.
