Thanks for the help so far. This way I can make the changes to the config file 
like a charm. But actually my question was, how to apply the changes ? The 
mouse stays in former mode until I restart kde. If I use the GUI the changes 
are applied immediately. But not with kwriteconfig.

I would be grateful for any help.
