how to enable multiuser switching?

ive seen many systems (both linux and freebsd) that come with the ability to 
switch users, ala windowsXP style.  on my system, i compiled my freebsd from 
sources (freebsd), so this option did not appear on my system by default.

how can i enable user switching?
