Konqueror is very slow!!!

Hi, why does Konqueror have to count through (and seemingly look at)
every file in a directory, before moving, copying or deleting it?

I just deleted a folder containing about 260MB of mixed files - but
before Konqueror deleted them, it laboriously counted through every
single file in the directory. This took nearly 6 minutes! (On a 3.2 GHZ
Machine with 1GB of RAM, that is very long for such a relatively small
folder).

This happens all the time with Konqueror and I have always wondered
about it. BTW I have used KDE for over 5 years - and have used numerous
distros - so I am not just some n00b who doesn't know what they are
talking about.

I just finally got round to asking something I have always wanted to know.
