pmount requirement

Hello,
in a lot of articles about user mounting with KDE I read that pmount is used 
for that, together with HAL and D-Bus. Despite that I couldn't fount pmount 
in neither 3.4 nor 3.5 (optional) requirements. It is actually used when 
installed?
