When I tried to execute that lshal program, I found myself in trouble, because 
I couldn't find it... I had to install the hal package, which installed the 
lshal executable, and also hald. Now everything is working fine... Sorry for 
the dummy situation, I thought it would be sufficient to have the hal 
libraries and headers installed.
