I'm running KDE 3.3.2 Level a.  If it helps, I'm using SUSE 9.1 Personal I got 
at CompUSA.  There's a YAST location for KDE on the SUSE ftp folder so you 
can update KDE through YAST.  That's how I updated from KDE 3.2 to 3.3.  I 
don't know if any of this helps but I thought I should give you as much info 
I can on how I have my system setup.  Considering each distro does things a 
little differently.

I'll try the other things you suggested and get back to you.
