Depending on the application you've granted control, usually this is xscreensaver, you can go into the advance settings of xscreensaver (GUI) and set the power-management portion to your desired settings. Keep in mind that your desktop environemt also has a power-management utility. KDE uses it's native screensaver by default, so check this as well.
