When you compile and install the newer versions they will overwrite the older ones. If at some stage in the future you then want to upgrade or remove the rpms that contained those apps, kpackage for example will give you a message saying that ksim, libksim etc file sizes and dates are different but it will still remove them/upgrade them. This is only really safe for users that actually understand what they are doing. Your best option is to get the upgraded source-rpm that contains those packages; compile it as an RPM and then Upgrade. -- regards, andrew
