Maybe I'm getting you wrong here but what's the problem? Chose
RC_LANG="xx_XX.ISO-8859-15" (where xx_XX is the locale setting for
portuguese) and in KDE chose "Auto" or "ISO-8859-15" and forget about
UTF-8. I have this solution and IMHO this _is_ a "clean" solution,
isn't it?
