Kicker won't swallow non-kde apps

Using KDE 3.2.2, I can't get kicker to swallow gbiff2 (or any non-kde progs 
for that matter).  I've seen sites that describe how to do this with older 
versions of kde using .desktop and .kdelnk files, but that method doesn't 
seem to work any more.
