2 Problems - A printer and logging out

Hi ALL
In a moment of financial madness I went out and bought a samsung cpl-500
colour laser printer today. I'm having problems with the install. Hope
someone can help.
I have used the setup.sh suplied with the printer. This does add Applications
in the 'start' menu and this contains 2 links to each of Configuration Tool,
Linux LPR and Linux uninstall. The uninstall does seem to work. The other 2
contain no referance to any printers so I ran YaST. This recognises the
printer but doesn't offer it as an option so I browsed to the .ppd file
provided by the installation in usr/local/linuxprinter/ppd/c/cpl-500splc.ppd.
YaST won't accept it. There is a gz on the samsung web site but if I try to
download it I get .gz.part and don't seem to be able to do anything with it.
I had tried to install an epson 5700 driver that just gave a printer dev/
lpt0. I can't find any way of uninstalling it and this may be causing my
problems. Well some of them at least!
HELP!

The other problem relates to logging out. If I log out I'm still in and don't
get offered the usual shutdown/ restart options as root. I'm logged out now
but seem to be able to do whatever I want even visit root. The start menu
still shows log off John. If I log out again the machine just locks up
showing KDE as usual. A press of the reset button takes me straight back in
after the boot up minus one or two things I was running.

Thanks John
