OK. This feature has been refined in 3.2.2 but it isn't exactly new.
If you click the "Menu" icon in the window's title bar and look for something like 'keep on top'. You might have to look under: "Advanced" to find it -- this has changed several times in the last few versions.
yes, 'sticky' windows have been around for awhile, but they do not maintain focus. Focus is different than window position. You can have focus on a window that's underneath another window, and type in it. Here's a simple example: suppose you're typing a message in Kmail, and decide to open Abiword. Even with 'always on top' toggled for Kmail, focus will shift to Abiword. Kmail is on top, but your typing goes to Abiword. Same thing happens with message popups. Quite annoying to have typing interrupted and goobered up by some dumb lil error message from another program.
I would like to see an option that does not allow anything to take focus away from the active window, make it a global option. It's been mentioned several times on the lists, over the years, as a possible new KDE feature, so I was hoping it had made it into 3.2.
Oh, that is a different issue. Have you tried different focus policies? This might be a solution.
In the Control Center: Desktop -> Window Behavior.
Try: "Policy: Focus Follows Mouse" and uncheck: "Auto raise" & "Click raise active window". You can experiment with this to see which settings you like best. It ia possible that your only problem is that you don't want: "Auto raise".
Then you can type in which ever window the mouse is in without raising it. Only disadvantage is that to raise a window, you need to click on the title bar.
