Well I have found that Fedora's "out of the box" kernel is awfully slow, and 
not just with KDE, noticeable in general use and some Benchmark tests.. KDE 
used here is from kde-redhat or custom built..

My solution was to build my own custom kernel, with the patches from 
http://www.plumlocosoft.com/kernel/ (The new maintainer of the CK patches)..
This works fine for me on my Desktop machine, KDE is blindingly fast for me, 
system Athlon 2k2 512 meg ram..
