Hello

I have SUSE 7.3 installed, which came with KDE2. Upgraded with KDE3.4 RPMs, which all went fine.

If I use the KDE2 version of the KDM chooser, then I can choose to log into a KDE3 session with no problems, except I cannot control the chooser with KControl and I do not get the "Start new session" option.

But if I use the KDE3 version of the KDM chooser (by editing /etc/init.d/kdmrc), when I try to logon to KDE3, the chooser goes away like normal but all I get in its place is a window with the title "Default" and the XSystem icon in the title bar. There are no error messages, just a prompt. The background on the rest of the screen is the chooser background, not my desktop background. If I type kde3 or /opt/kde3/bin/startkde, I get the "KDE3 starting up" splash and I get into my desktop.

I've looked at the /opt/kde3/share/config/Xsession and at ~/.xsession. All seem OK and if I change things in them, the changes have no effect.

I could continue to use the KDE2 KDM chooser, but it is less pretty to look at, I cannot control it from KControl, and I do not get the option to "Statr another session".

Your install of KDM is screwed.

The most likely problem is that you are not using the "Xsession" script.

Do you have "Session=" set correctly in: "kdmrc", it should be in the: "[X-*-Core]" section. If you don't have this set, it will just start an Xterm.
