kopete: "Impossible to load the protocol"

[daniel <danstemporaryaccount@xxxxxxxx>]

what exactly does this mean?  when i add the protocol to the list of plugins, 
and close kopete, then re-open the the protocol is taken off the list again! 
:-(  i checked to see if for some odd reason there was a permissions issue 
creating the config files, but alas, this is not the case.

any suggestions as to how i can get kopete to allow me to add an account?
