Physics of Sound
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Columbia Memorial Space Center, Downey, California
Target Audience: Teachers for grades K-12
Overview:This hands-on workshop illustrates how sound moves through solids, liquids and gases. By teaching students about the physics of sound, you can illustrate why there is no sound in the vacuum of space. Plus, learn how we communicate with spacecraft at the edges of the solar system with NASA's Deep Space Network.
Participants are invited to participate in a simulated space mission in the Challenger Learning Center after the workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Workshops are FREE for all pre-service and fully credentialed teachers.
Pre-registration is required.
Participants are required to bring in their teacher or student ID the day of each workshop.
Lunch will be provided.
This free workshop is offered through the City of Downey Columbia Memorial Space Center, a hands-on learning center dedicated to bringing the wonder and excitement of science and innovation to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, in partnership with NASA/JPL Education.
