Target audience: K - 12 educators
Location: NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA
Overview: To celebrate the upcoming launch of the Aquarius/SAC-D satellite, a free workshop will highlight Aquarius' advanced technologies that will make NASA's first space-based measurements of ocean salinity across the globe - an important observation for ocean and climate studies.
Applications are due Friday, May 6.

-- Educator Workshop: Mass versus Weight

Target audience: Teachers, grades 5 - 8
Location: JPL's Educator Resource Center, Pomona, CA
Overview: Students often confuse the terms "mass" and "weight" and use them interchangeably even though they have very different meanings. Each activity in the Mass vs. Weight series demonstrates the difference between mass and weight by comparing results with video clips filmed by astronauts performing similar activities onboard the International Space Station. Students perform the activities in the classroom, record, analyze and interpret their data.

Overview: Have you ever wondered how NASA "talks" to our various missions? In this workshop teachers will learn about NASA's Deep Space Network of dishes here on Earth. Come enjoy "center-based" lessons that illustrate how sound moves through solids, liquids and gases.

-- Through the Eyes of a Scientist Workshop
Saturday, July 27, 2011, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Target audience: Teachers, grades 2 - 6
Location: JPL's Educator Resource Center, Pomona, CA
Overview: The workshop will feature the curricular unit about NASA/JPL geologist Robert Anderson. With activities and text, you will be guided through a comparison of Earth's Grand Canyon and Valles Marineris, a 3,000 mile canyon on Mars. This Earth science workshop will be presented by Dr. Art Hammon.

-- Teachers Touch the Sky: An Astronomy Workshop
August 8 - 12, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Target audience: Teachers grades 3 - 9
Location: NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA
Overview: During this one-week workshop, teachers will be walked through hands-on activities that are all based on current projects in astronomy and space science at the Jet Propulsion Lab, focusing on NASA's current Dawn Mission to the asteroid Vesta.
