Radio Sounds Give Clues to Saturn Day
Listen to sounds of radio emissions from Saturn, which are helping scientists study the length of a Saturnian day, in an audio podcast now available at: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/podcast/cassini-20070322/ and through various podcasting sites.
The podcast includes an interview with Don Gurnett, a scientist with NASA's Cassini mission. He explains how material spewed from geysers on Saturn's little moon Enceladus into Saturn's magnetic field causes the field to rotate more slowly than Saturn. This complicates traditional techniques for measuring the length of Saturn's day.
