JPL's Roots Of Rocketry -- An Anniversary and an Award
On Halloween 1936, a handful of Caltech students conducted the first rocket-related test on the Pasadena, Calif., site that eventually became NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the test, new audio, visual and text features are now playing online at: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/spotlights/200610-history.cfm
- A web video podcast with historical footage and audio, and an interview with JPL historian Dr. Erik Conway
- A colorful written account looking back at the historic first day of testing
- An audio podcast featuring JPL Director Dr. Charles Elachi, one of "America's Best Leaders" in the current U.S. News & World Report. He explains how the "rocket boys'" began a legacy for JPL to achieve seemingly impossible things
- An interactive quiz about JPL and space history (to be posted Monday)
