Keep the 
	head = &eb->buckets[handle & eb->and];
local assignment as it makes the line splitting neater (and iirc
something like gcc -Os doesn't use the temporary assignment - but then
who would use CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE!).
