The igt library has a lot of support for combining automated modes with manual testing and additional options, see e.g. the pm_rpm or kms_psr_sink_crc testcases for what's possible. If you're using intel_sprite_on for development testing or validation please evaluate what's missing in proper igt testcoverage and work towards converting over as soon as possible.
