I've decided that my life isn't painful enough yet and pulled this in.
Most of it through -fixes, the actual patch to remove the typdef through
dinq. If that one's causing too much trouble I can drop it again and we do
the final removal of newly introduced users and the typedef itself in a
few months before the 3.16 merge window.
