macbook pro with retina display problems

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I'm running Gentoo/Funtoo Linux on my Macbook pro with retina display.
Everything I need is working very well besides one thing: I can't get the
Intel gfx working... nouveau and Nvidia binary blob are working fine.
Since I really want to use the Intel gfx (since it uses much less power
and don't want to deal with the nvidia driver every time I update the
kernel ;-) )
mabye someone can help me. I'm using the latest xf86-video-intel 2.20.10.

Tried kernel 3.6.2 and 3.7-rc1 with .config from Sabayon and Archlinux
supplied with there kernel 3.6. Booting the kernel works without problems
and I can log in to the console/shell. Then I do a "modprobe nouveau".
This works fine too and the driver loads without problem. This also
activates vgaswitcheroo. But when I now try to switch to the integrated
Intel chip with

echo DIGD > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

I only get a black screen (backlight off). Since I'm still able to reboot
with Ctrl+Alt+Del I suspect that the system is still working but only
the screen gets black. Using gfxcardstatus in Mac OS X to switch to
the integrated chip and then booting Linux doesn't work either.

If I start X after booting (without using vgaswitcheroo) I only get
a cursor at the left top corner of the screen but I can switch back
to the console with Ctrl+Alt+F1.

I've tried with xorg.conf

Section "Device"
     Identifier "Intel Graphics"
     Driver "intel"
     Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
     BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

and with a xorg.conf. This is the output in Xorg.log:

I've tried to solve the problem with some help of the archlinux forum
but no luck: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=144255&p=3
(see posts from user archixxx).

Has anyboy a hint for me? I take everything! ;-)

Thanks!
Robert
