LMTPD process stuck at 100% - blocking mail deliveries - 3.8.1

Hi All,

I tried upgrading from 3.4.5 to 3.8.1.
All the steps went fine and I could access my emails.

However, when I restarted postfix to have emails delivered, I noticed the "lmtpd" process to be stuck at 100%. No emails were being delivered and all was stuck. Thinking this might be a startup issue (with a lot of larger emails), I left it to run for a few hours. In this time, no emails were actually accepted by cyrus and "mailq" started listing emails with timeout issues with LMTP.

I was unable to find any logging for lmtpd to see what was causing it be stuck and as I need the server to be available. I was forced to roll back to 3.4.5 and with help of backups (for the database-files) and "reconstruct" I got the server back in a logical state.

During this time, I tried every google search term I could come up with, but other than some issues reported for 3.0, I was unable to find anything. Is this something others have seen recently or have any idea on what might be causing this?

Based on my search results, the following info might be useful:
- I use sieve-scripts
- I use (afaik) mostly default settings with regards to tuning connections
- I use postfix (with dkim and amavisd/clamav filters configured prior to handing it to the lmtp-socket) - I confirmed multiple times that all the permissions of the socket and processes were correct (incl. trying chmod 777) - I confirmed that it's not a firewall issue (I put the local firewall to allowing everything)
- At no time was there a full filesystem (either space or inodes)
- I use ext4 for the mailstore partitions
- I have different partitions for: databases, imapstore, archivelocation, metalocation (this has been working correctly for 2 years now)
- I still use squatter (but disabling this did not resolve the issue)

If you need any further information, please let me know. I would love to upgrade to a more recent version and am also planning in switching to xapian for the search/index. But first I want the core to be upgraded.

Many thanks in advance,

Joost
