Usually clients works fine with 10000-30000 emails per folder.

But more than that.... they just slow down/crawl, no matter how much power you have on serverside.

Out suggestion to the client(s) is to make subfolders by year or something like that.

Is it a lot or not?

We use zfs dataset as underlying filesystem (not optimal raidz2 with 6 SSDs).
