Solved it with rsyslog message filtering[1]:

###*.*;auth,authpriv.none		-/var/log/syslog
*.*;auth,authpriv.none;mail.none	-/var/log/syslog
[...]
:msg,startswith, " fetching user_deny" ~
:msg,startswith, " SQUAT failed" ~
:msg,contains, "defaultbc doesn\'t exist: No such " ~
mail.*				-/var/log/mail.log
