Dan, Switching to the Blastwave-packaged Cyrus-SASL 2.1.25 and adding sasl_saslauthd_path: /var/opt/csw/saslauthd/mux to /etc/imapd.conf did the trick. Cyrus 2.4.16 and SASL 2.1.25 now happily communicating.
