spread (http://www.spread.org/), as exemplified by Wackamole
(http://www.backhand.org/wackamole/) is good for distributed heartbeat
and election algorithms. It takes more work to make it reliable for
heavy data transfer, but Cyrus has solved that part of the problem already.
