Given that we've been running that patch on top of CVS for a few months not (Linux with a newer zlib) without problems, I'd love to know what's wrong with the patch - particularly since I'm planning to add it to CVS if there's nothing else wrong with it. So it goes into an infinite loop on signals_poll, obviously. Can you please try building with the patch, but with the new zlib?
