What means "old"? What has changed?
Each Mailbox has a unique number which is in the seen-File and each Message has a unique number which is also in the seen-File.
Sure you can restore an old seen-File, but the work you have to do while or after doing this depends on the changes you have made to the Mailbox and the Messages.
