Of course their "read" status aren't updated. This sounds like the user's .seen file is corrupted. You can try moving the .seen file for this user to a backup filename. Cyrus will recreate a fresh one. If that fixes the problem, then do a google search for 'skiplist.py' and use that tool to repair the old .seen file.
